CICA structures itself upon a belief, how the development of social emotional learning can create an understanding of one’s identity. As a new organization, CICA understands the necessity of this learning. The instructors are encouraged to implement it into their lessons. At CICA participants develop their emotional and intellectual side, as the arts become a source of development on the set of values that are essential to live as a positive contributing citizen and humble human being. There are three goals we focus on and they are: 1) Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success, 2) Use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships, and 3) Demonstrate decision-making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, academic, and social contexts.
The emotional intellectual benefits are the acquirement of leadership and cultural ownership, the sense of commitment and responsibility but most importantly, generosity, empathy and dedication towards others. Working as a team gives a sense of individual contribution to achieve personal and collective goals. Artistic programs like this lead to the development of high self esteem, confidence and auto efficiency. Nobel prize winner and world icon, Mother Teresa de Calcuta, passionately insisted on a belief that impacted CICA’s way of thinking - “The most miserable thing about poverty is not the lack of bread, roof, money or physical possessions, but the feeling of being no one, the lack of identity, lack of public esteem and the feeling of being ignored.” CICA sets a platform that provides kids and youth with a noble identity that projects them as role models for their family and community, making them better students as it inspires a sense of responsibility, perseverance and punctuality that will greatly help them succeed in their academic growth and future jobs.
